Privacy Policy

Prameya (prameya.org) is a non-commercial educational website. We collect as little about you as possible. This page explains what is collected when you visit, why, and what you can do about it.

In short

  • You can read everything on this site without creating an account or giving us any personal information.
  • We do not run advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
  • We count visits with a privacy-friendly tool that runs on our own server. It sets no cookies on your device, does not store your IP address, and shares nothing with anyone else.
  • The interactive tools on this site run entirely in your browser. What you click in them is not sent to us or anyone else.

Information we receive

If you write to us. If you email info@prameya.org, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

If you leave a comment. Where comments are open, we collect the name, email address and comment you enter, along with your IP address and browser details. Your email address is never published. Comments may be checked by an automated spam filter (Akismet, run by Automattic), which receives the comment and these details for that purpose. Comments may be held for moderation before they appear.

Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting provider (Hostinger) automatically records basic technical information when pages are requested: your IP address, browser type, the pages visited and the time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and running, and are kept for a limited period.

Visit statistics. To understand which pages are read, we use Independent Analytics, a statistics tool that runs entirely on our own server. For each visit it records the page viewed, the site that referred you (if any), your approximate location (country and city) and your type of device and browser. It does not set cookies on your device and does not store your IP address. Repeat visits are recognised using an anonymous identifier calculated from your IP address and browser details, which is not itself stored. These statistics stay on our server and are not shared with anyone.

Cookies

We do not set cookies for ordinary visitors. WordPress sets cookies only if you log in, or if you leave a comment and choose to have your name and email remembered for next time. Third-party services described below may set their own cookies, as noted.

Content from other services

Some pages include content provided by other services. When your browser loads it, that service receives your IP address and may apply its own privacy policy.

  • YouTube videos are embedded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube does not set cookies until you press play. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google’s servers to download them. Google states that it does not use this to build visitor profiles.
  • Search engines. We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google search results. It reports on searches, not on individual visitors.

How long we keep information

Emails are kept only as long as needed to respond. Approved comments, and the details attached to them, stay with the comment until it is deleted. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period for security purposes.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, including any comments you have left. Write to info@prameya.org and we will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, data-protection laws (such as India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation) may give you further rights. We will honour them.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the site starts using a new service that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the date above changed.
